The Project Brief

There is a growing number of medium-sized and large companies throughout the world that need banking products that work perfectly to ease their hectic lives. That was the motivation behind this project. We wanted make it easy for businesses to conduct financial transactions.

Businesses need to manage and control their activities, accounts and financials on a daily basis, and need a reliable tool to do all this in an easy and comprehensible way to keep their companies liquid, safe and secure.

Competitive Analysis

I carried out a competitive analysis of other existing digital banking platforms that caters to businesses to get a sense of how they have been able to solve the same problems, achievements and gaps that can give us an edge.

This experience gave me an idea of what they got right, actions they took that are aligned with the ideas I have as well as what they didn't get right and how to improve upon them.

Understanding The User

We had conversations with a group of small business owners around their pain points when trying to open a business account.

Top Pain Points

  • Difficulty in making trips to a physical branch
  • Completing multiple forms
  • Lack of information on the regulatory required documents needed for a business account to be operational

Customer Journey Map

Subsequently, I went on to create a customer journey map, a visualization of the series of steps a customer (Sally) must take to interact with VULTe in relation to things like her thoughts, emotions, goals, and motives.

So, for Sally with, these steps could look something like:

Wireframing

I used Balsamiq to mock up wireframes and determine what controls and design patterns would be the most appropriate for the app in preparation for testing with users.

Challenges

  • Getting users to test with during the lockdown.
  • Pushback from internal stakeholders.

Reflections & Learnings

We were able to work closely as a team, prioritizing a supportive approach to ideas and sketching instead of endless debating. This allowed us to concentrate on the essential and focus our energy with clearer goals in mind.
As a result of the intensive research and testing, users found the experience easy to understand and useful.
